Skincare and Beauty

1. Identify your skin type. The most important aspect of beauty is your skin – think of it as a canvas that, when clean and healthy, is the foundation for your overall appearance. The first step in properly caring for your skin is to identify what type of skin you have. This will ensure that you’re purchasing the correct products for your needs. If you have flaky skin that tends to crack no matter what the season, you most likely veer towards dry skin. Your products will include special moisturizers and gentle ingredients to lock in natural oils.

There seem to be two main skincare concerns as we enter our 40’s and beyond… wrinkles and sagging skin.

The four main reasons why wrinkles and sagging occur:

1.  Sun damage to the outer layer of skin (epidermis and dermis).

2.  Loss of soft tissue fullness and other structural support UNDER the skin.

3.  Repetitive facial movements such as frowning, smiling, smoking, laughing and even drinking through a straw.

4.  Poor general health habits, such as improper nutrition, smoking and limited exercise.

One of the most common questions asked of an esthetician is, what does a facial do for me? Simple answer, plenty.

We all have professionals that we trust; our hairstylist, our mechanic, our handyman. We trust that as professionals, they have done the research and have the knowledge and experience to deliver a higher quality of service than we could do ourselves. Sure you can cut your own hair and fix your own engine-but would you?

For this installment of the “Manpering” blog, I received an Enzyme Anti-Aging Facial from Maura. Maura is an Esthetician for the Woodhouse Day Spa – Zionsville, and let me tell you, even though I don’t get facials that often, this one was AMAZING!

Before the service I sat down with Maura and asked her some questions about the service I was about to receive.

For this installment of the “Manpering” blog, I received the Minkyti Facial from Valerie and let me say, it was definitely an experience! I have only ever had one facial before, a MicroCurrent facial with Christine, but it was very different in comparison to the Minkyti facial. The MicroCurrent focuses more on lifting and fixing signs of aging, but the Minkyti is different in the fact that it proprietary to the Woodhouse Day Spa and it focuses on firming and toning. Obviously, the Minkyti still seeks to reduce signs of aging, but it is a much different process than the MicroCurrent.

Here it is, the third installment of “Manpering”, except this time, I wasn’t the only one getting pampered! Seeing as Valentine’s Day is THIS FRIDAY, I figured it was time to try out a Duet Massage. So, I made a reservation and invited my girlfriend Hayley (extra brownie points for me!). For this massage, we went to the Zionsville location and got our service from Jodee and Edith. The nice thing about this type of massage is that you both get massages tailored specifically for you. I decided to go with the Swedish Massage and Hayley went with the Swedish as well.

The third installment of the “Manpering” discusses the Agave Nectar Pedicure that I received from Nichole. Nichole has been a cosmetologist for over 12 years and the thing that keeps her motivated is that she gets to make clients feel beautiful and look beautiful.

The second installment of the “Manpering” blog series is over the Microcurrent facial with Christine. Christine has been all over the country in her time as an Esthetician, in fact, before she came to the Woodhouse Day Spa here in Carmel, she was living and working in Austin, Texas! That’s a big jump! Christine has been an esthetician for over 15 years and absolutely LOVES what she does and trust me, it shows in her work!
